Fundraising concert to help community environmental action

Category: Events

ECO is to host ‘Echoes – A Concert for the Environment’ at 7.00pm, Saturday 31 July 2010 at the Adam Concert Room, Victoria University Kelburn Campus, Wellington. Enjoy live music from Wellington-based contemporary music group, the SMP Ensemble, and raise money to help the environment. Proceeds will go towards The Environment and Conservation Organisations of New Zealand (ECO).

“We have planned a program of works by New Zealand and international composers who admire the beauty of nature, and are concerned about its fragility and our impact upon it. The Echoes title brings together sonic aspects as well as the symbolic implications of actions past, present and future”, said SMP Ensemble director, Andrzej Nowicki.

The event will feature works by Keiko Abe (Japan), Tristan Carter, Simon Eastwood, Gareth Farr, Lou Harrison (USA), Anton Killin, Dugal McKinnon, Andrzej Nowicki, David Sanders, and John Williams (USA).

Established in 1971, ECO is non-profit network of 66 organisations throughout New Zealand, who share a concern for conservation and the environment. The core of ECO’s work is promoting and strengthening community environmental action, and getting better government policies and management decisions.

“We are excited to partner with the SMP Ensemble to present this special concert of music dedicated to the environment. It's fantastic to see Wellington and international musicians coming together to make this event happen. The money raised will be used to help us provide community environmental groups the resources to be as effective as possible.” said ECO.

The SMP Ensemble was formed in October 2008, and comprises outstanding Wellington-based musicians in collaboration with advanced students of the New Zealand School of Music and Victoria University of Wellington.

The Adam Concert Room is located at Victoria University’s Kelburn Campus, entrance Gate 7, Kelburn Parade, Wellington.

Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Tickets $15 (Students $8). Door sales available.
